Ultramar says that although they do not have an exact date, ferry services for the Nichupté lagoon in Cancun will begin operations in 2020.
Germán Orozco Sarro, administration counsel president of Grupo Ultramar, says that by 2020, the company will begin water transport services that will leave from a site called Dany’s Island, which borders Parque Cancún.
He stressed that although they do not have a defined date, it could happen as soon as within three months, or it could also be four or even six months. He clarified that the departure point will not be from Malecón Tajamar as had been previously mentioned.
“The last two ships are about to finish, six in total, so I calculate that next year, the operation begins. We are here, but the boats are missing,” he said.
Orozco Sarro said that they have yet to determine rates, something that will be calculated when the last of the boats arrive and they begin operations, explaining that the rates charged for the service have many variables, starting with the price of fuel.
He did say that the idea is that the boarding ferry terminal links to the urban buses at affordable prices, which will save significant time in transfers.
He added that each vessel will have a passenger capacity of 280 with two routes, one at Kilometer 9 and the second at Kilometer 15, both along Kukulcán Boulevard, noting that each vessel cost $4 million USD.
