Trump could be sentenced as an accomplice of his former lawyer; seeks suit with AMLO to divert attention: Basáñez

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, wants to engage in a lawsuit against the Mexican leader, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as a strategy to divert attention from the case that could lead him to prison, said former ambassador Miguel Basáñez.
On Wednesday, Michael Cohen, an ex-lawyer of Donald Trump, was sentenced to 36 months in federal court in New York.
Cohen pleaded guilty, among other crimes, to lie to the United States Congress, tax evasion and violating the electoral campaign finance laws of that country.

Basáñez said the call between US President Donald Trump and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador came after the meeting in Morocco on the global migratory pact and the visit made by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard to Washington to interview with the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
