The Wall Street Journal says autocracy in Mexico should have the U.S. concerned

Share

This week’s summit focused on the positive, but none of its aspirations are achievable with a lawless, militarized Mexico hostile to democratic rule.

President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flew to Mexico City this week for what appeared to be a friendly summit with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known as AMLO. The three leaders discussed shared concerns, such as climate and immigration, and promised to “work together on semiconductors.”

Beyond that, however, they made few substantive agreements and said noticeably little about significant sources of tension between the Mexican leader and his counterparts to the north.
