The US Army will build the wall if Congress does not act, warns Trump

US President Donald Trump said he will elude Congress and hand over to the Army the construction of a promised border wall if lawmakers do not move forward in funding the fence on the border with Mexico.

“If the Democrats do not give us the votes to secure our country, the Army will build the remaining segments of the wall,” Donald Trump said on Twitter, hours before a meeting with the two leading Democratic Party legislators in Congress.

The border wall with Mexico was one of the most controversial electoral promises of Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.

The president of the United States said at that time that he would build a great wall to stop immigration from Mexico and that the government of that country would finance it.
