Playa del Carmen police happen upon group dealing drugs on residential street

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Seven people detained and over 400 bags of narcotics seized were part of a Playa del Carmen drug operation Tuesday. The group of alleged drug dealers were located in the Bellavista neighborhood after patrolling officers happened upon them.

Two people from the group were seen handling bags of what police suspected to be drugs. As they began to approach the group on 150th Avenue, they fled with some hopping in a car and others hopping aboard a nearby motorcycle.

Police witnessing the flee attempt notified other nearby police officers who intercepted the vehicles on 134th Avenue. During a review of all seven, police found 474 bags of different sizes and varying narcotics.

The seven arrested ranged in age from 19 to 47 and were from the states of Quintana Roo, Campeche, Yucatan and Veracruz. One man, 37-year-old Rodrigo N, was from Argentina. Police also took their cash, which amounted to 2,660 pesos.
