Cancun could also have second Maya Train station

Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun could also be up for a second Maya Train station, which authorities say, will depend on land availability.

The announcement was made by Rogelio Jiménez Pons of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur) who said that the state government is looking into three options in hopes of being able to secure one of them that would see a second train station for Cancun.

Jiménez Pons added that the decision to make the second station has already been made, however, the dilemma is the availability of land. This second station, he explained, would be located at least 11 kilometers inside the urban area of Cancun and would facilitate the feeding of both tourists and workers who require transfers to any of the points along the Cancun-Riviera Maya corridor.

“If they tell me tomorrow that they have the land, that would be the moment the second station would be decided. It is not something that is urgent. We can wait until the end of the year to define the land issue,” he explained.

“It would be under management of the state government and would provide a great service to the city, both for urban reorganization issues around roadways and for speeding up mobility for the thousands of people who, for leisure or work, move from Cancun towards some point in the Riviera Maya,” he said.

The general director of the Fonatur clarified that the government of Quintana Roo is currently analyzing three land options, noting “as long as nothing is signed, the announcement of this second season cannot be made official.”
