Westchester County Legislator Colin Smith says he’s stranded in Cancun due to Hurricane Grace.
Smith says he was supposed to fly out Wednesday evening, but United Airlines canceled that flight. Now he has to hunker down in Mexico until the storm passes.
News 12 spoke to Smith over Zoom, and he says he’s just glad to be in a safe spot for now and looking forward to returning home soon. “Assuming that the storm doesn’t create any issues with outgoing flights, we should be on our way back by tomorrow. We’re right on the coast so when it makes landfall it’s going to be on its strongest point and has an opportunity to pick up steam…You can see here – it’s a resort, I’m not worried for myself necessarily. The building appears to be quite sturdy. Oh my, you can see those waves are really coming in now…wow.”
Hurricane Grace made landfall in Mexico this morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.
