CHETUMAL.- The initiative promoted by congressman Gustavo Miranda from the Ecologist Party (PVEM) to legitimize the use of firearms in self-defense, expired in Legislative Commissions from the state Congress.
In an interview, the PVEM congressman assured that although the initiative expired in the “freezer” of Congress, he did not rule out retaking it, or resubmitting it to the XVI Legislature.
“I talked to the president of Justice Commission, to see how to resume it. It has already expired, but there is a way to retake this initiative, there was already progress in commissions, forums with the judiciary, the Prosecutor’s Office, and Civil Associations that are in favor of doing it”, he assured.
As it will be remembered, the “Miranda Law” was criticized due to the multiple loopholes in which it did not specify when it could be applied.
Well, the reform to subsections B, section II; and subsection C, sections II and III of article 20 of the entity’s Penal Code, “establishes that in the assumption of legitimate defense, it is not talking about a restriction or forgiveness of the penalty or some state of need to apologize, but a legitimate and fully legal reaction”.
Miranda assured that as long as the Board of Directors does not revive the initiative, in accordance with its powers, it will present it again.
Miranda’s sayings occur after a violent robbery is reported in Cancun, where the thieves even knocked down the door with a truck, and after causing damage they fled the place, the fact was recorded through the security cameras of the, and the videos were viralized.
Finally, Miranda reiterated that it is necessary for citizens to be able to use firearms in legitimate defense, since the state does not guarantee the safety of the inhabitants.
