The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), presented his New Minimum Wage Plan at an event in the National Palace.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the amount of the increase is the result of an agreement with the workers, their representatives and businessmen, but that the Bank of Mexico was also consulted.
The head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare had made statements claiming that it is expected to boost the economy of the republic and prevent people from looking for jobs outside of Mexico.
Mainly it is expected to benefit workers who have income of one or two minimum wages, such as counter salesmen, masons, cargo drivers, mechanics, social workers, among others.
