He Jiankui, the Chinese scientist responsible for genetically modifying babies with the CRISPR / Cas9 tool to be immune to HIV, could face the death penalty.

Robin Lovell-Badge, a British geneticist, explained that Jiankui would face the death penalty on charges of corruption and bribery, highly penalized in China.

Lovell-Badge, who met the Chinese scientist during the Second International Summit on the Human Genome Edition at the University of Hong Kong, said Jiankui admitted being proud of his work.
