Over 600 People Evacuated From A Fire In Cancun’s Hotel Zone
Share
On Sunday, October 31st, 2021 all guests and staff were evacuated from ‘Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa’ in Cancun’s hotel zone as a result of a fire inside the hotel.
All hands were swiftly on deck to fight the blaze and situate evacuees. Many firefighters, water trucks, police, paramedics, and even military personnel were seen on-site to help get the situation under control. Luckily firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly before it spread and caused further damage.
Reports claim that approximately 650 guests were safely evacuated from the building and that firefighters rescued close to 30 guests that were trapped inside either their suite or inside an elevator. It was an intense situation as some guests who were trapped in their suite had to break their hotel window for fresh air as they awaited rescue. There have been no reports of serious injury or death, which is great news!
Hundreds of guests were seen outside of the hotel for several hours watching the events unfold right in front of their eyes. Some with their luggage, others with merely just the beachwear on their backs. It is unknown at this time where the displaced guests were sent or just how many were affected ‘long-term’ while on their vacation.
Although there are rumors going around about the details and the exact cause of the fire, no official reports have been made and local authorities are still investigating the incident.
