Cancun replaces old buses with new staring with Hotel Zone

The city of Cancun has unleashed 43 new public buses that will begin serving the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Arturo Abreu Marín, delegate of Strategic Programs in Quintana Roo, led the ceremony of the 43 units that SEA (Servicios Empresariales Ecológicos y Administrativos del Autotransporte) put into circulation for the Hotel Zone of Cancun. He says the units are part of a replacement program.

The new buses are managed by three transportation companies Autocar, Maya Caribe and Turicún, who together, brought the new buses into the city to improve the quality of the transport service.

“It is important that the state of Quintana Roo, not just the municipality of Benito Juárez, knows that the union is very serious about transport, and that the object is not to form a monopoly. On the contrary, it is to diversify and also improve service. I don’t think there is anyone, no institution in any part of the country, that opposes benefits to citizens,” he said.

He also stressed the importance to “applaud the gesture” of the owners of the public transport lines of the municipality of Benito Juárez adding, “I want to make it clear that it is not a monopoly because they are all companies in the coordinated sector. What we are doing is coordinating to provide a better service.”

The 43 new units have replaced 43 old units that used to service the Cancun Hotel Zone. The three companies say they will continue to replace old units with new buses, with a goal of 165 in total. Once purchased, the 165 new buses will be used more efficiently to reduce the number of units serving the city, which is currently 250.
